D-Star Stations in South Wales accessing DMR Talkgroup 23531 through XLX005 R unable to reliably access the system. Initial call from D-Star to DMR works, after that D-Star only hearing DMR intermittently before losing the net altogether.

Solution likely to be to have our own transcoding server to ensure capacity, probably to connect directly to our own DMR server. https://n5amd.com/digital-radio-how-tos/build-digital-voice-transcoding-server/ might help.

Initial need is to scope what is required and how much it would cost to get CoM approval before buying anything.

Cut & Paste of an email reply

Hi Ozzie,

Sorry for my late reply, i am on vacation but buisiness is going on.

The price for a DVstick33 is 155,00 Euro excl shipment. Shipment to UK is approx 16,00 Euro by fedex.

Payment can be done by PayPal. I send you a link then.

I have stock now so immediate (within 2 day’s) shipment is possible.

Thank you very much

Met vriendelijke groet / With kind regards,

Brandmeister UK updated the XLX005 server and updated IP address to 87.117.229.51 . South Wales servers updated to new address and possibly working now. Just waiting for extended tests.

D-Star to BM link broken as a result of the split by FreeDMR. XLX005 R currently only goes to that network.

Software at https://github.com/LX3JL/xlxd This is looking for a Debian server and doesn’t recommend using Raspian. https://ww8tf.club/building-a-transcoding-xlxd-pi/ is also worth a read. https://n5amd.com/digital-radio-how-tos/create-xlx-xrf-d-star-reflector/

Pi instructions seem to be at http://www.pa7lim.nl/ambe3003-xlxdmr/

Initial pick list; Argon One M.2 Case for Pi 4 https://thepihut.com/products/argon-one-m-2-raspberry-pi-4-case £42 ( allows for internal SSD reducing dependence on SD card ). DVStick33 ( AMBE3003 ) USB sticks allowing three channels of communications each are 155 Eur each. Pi4b 8GB memory £73.50

ODroid N2+ with 4GB RAM is £93.63

DVsticks ~£321.6 including UK VAT That would give six channels of D-Star to the RAYNET-UK repeater, enough for 5023531 and some extra reflectors for D-Star heavy zones to route straight to their local talkgroups. Odroid tends to natively run ubuntu rather than Debian though
